20 November 2020

After further restrictions were introduced on Thursday 5th November, designed to curb the spread of COVID-19, the activities undertaken by non-essential retail businesses, large parts of hospitality sector and leisure services were again limited. A summary of the key changes can be found here.

We know the majority of businesses in Cheshire West and Chester have gone to great lengths to ensure they are operating in a safe and compliant manner and have adopted practices to make themselves COVID-19 secure, and these latest restrictions will have come as a blow.

Whilst undoubtedly there are many activities which aren’t allowed, there are also several things businesses can do, including:

Non-essential retail

  • Operate a ‘Click and Collect’ service provided the customer does not enter the business premises.
  • Restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs

  • Provide food and drink for takeaway, click and collect, drive through or delivery.

  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks can be sold for consumption off the premises between 5am and 10pm.  The customer can enter the business to collect these items.

  • Alcohol can be sold at any time provided it is ordered to collect and the customer does not enter the premises.

  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks can be sold for consumption off the premises between 10pm and 5am.  The order must be made over the phone or internet and the customer cannot enter the business during collection.
  • Takeaways

  • Customers can enter a takeaway business to order and collect food for consumption off the premises at any time.  This does not include alcohol.
  • Hotels, hostels and guest houses

  • You can accept certain categories of guests including essential workers and homeless people.  Food and drink (including alcohol) can be provided as room service and must be consumed inside the room.
