Cholmondeley Arms

17 March 2022

An award-winning village pub in Cheshire has announced it will be reopening after it was forced to close over the winter for reasons including the Covid pandemic and Brexit. The Cholmondeley Arms, on Wrenbury Road in Malpas, has been shut since December 4 last year.

Owners Tim Bird and Mary McLaughlin said the three lockdowns had caused an 'enormous' impact on the industry's workforce. They added that travel restrictions and the rules brought in as a result of Brexit had made it difficult for them to recruit the skilled workers they need 'to maintain the exceptional standards of food and drink that make the Cholmondeley Arms the award-winning pub that it is'.

They said the pub would be refurbished during the closure with a view to open up again in the spring. Now they have revealed that the establishment will be back serving customers in April and are seeking new staff members.
