Ellesmere Port Conditionally Chosen as Plant for New Astra

28 June 2019

Groupe PSA has revealed Ellesmere Port is one of two plants in Europe where it intends to make the next generation Astra. But the automotive giant added that the decision was conditional on the final terms of the UK’s exit from the European Union.

A factory in Russelsheim, Germany, will manufacture the Astra and it is planned that the second plant will be Ellesmere Port, the owner of Vauxhall Motors said.

The Ellesmere Port decision, however, is conditional on the final terms of the UK's exit and the acceptance of the New Vehicle Agreement, which has been negotiated with the Unite Trade Union.

Currently, the Vauxhall and Opel Astra are built in Ellesmere Port and in Gliwice.

This news was said to demonstrates Groupe PSA's commitment to Vauxhall Motors.
