Northwich rum takes silver at World Rum Awards

3 June 2021

In less than a year, Ben and Holly Fog have launched their own spiced rum and won a silver award at the World Rum Awards 2021.

Hygge Drinks Company was created in Northwich, Cheshire, during lockdown number three and their first batch went down a storm with customers.

The couple, who already ran a busy electrical and building maintenance company, began thinking about the idea during the first lockdown, and it’s certainly gathered speed since then.

Speaking about the brand, Ben previously said: “Our rum is a drink that is best enjoyed with friends and family and at social gatherings.

“I really hope that this summer it rum can be shared far and wide with our customers at barbecues and family gatherings.

“Fingers crossed we can all have a less restrictive summer.

“In addition to this we’d love to be stocked in a mainstream national retailer – this would allow us to share our rum with more people and help to create and recognise those little Hygge moments, which I think we’ve all missed and taken for granted.”

Now, just a few months later, Hygge Spiced Rum has gone on to win a silver award in the traditional spiced category of the World Rum Awards.

Ben added: “We have ranked higher than some of the bigger brands.

“I think you would agree for a business that is still less than 12 months old, this is a great achievement.”

The World Rum Awards is part of the the World Drinks Awards, global awards selecting ‘the very best in all internationally-recognised styles of drinks’.

Presented by TheDrinksReport.com, the world’s no.1 online resource for drinks professionals, the awards select, reward and promote the world’s best drinks.

The World Rum Awards described Hygge Spiced Rum as: “Quite round nose with flavours of lemon biscuit.

“Tropical, tutti frutti on the nose, dolly mixture too.

“Slightly creamy vanilla, some biscuity lemon notes too.”

The mission from the start for Hygge was to ‘create a drink worthy enough to share the journey of life’.

The brand’s mission statement reads: “A drink that should be enjoyed during our most special moments.

“We’re throwing down the metaphorical gauntlet and we’re changing the stereotype and misconception around Rum. No sailors, no pirates and no sea monsters.... just quality rum.”
