Planning approved to turn coffee shop into craft beer and wine bar

26 April 2021

Plans have been approved to established a family-run craft beer and wine bar on the site of Rhino Coffee House on Christleton Road in Boughton.

The bar's operating hours will be 9am until 10pm, Monday to Thursday, 9am until 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am until 10pm on Sunday and bank holidays.

The planning application it states that the aim of the business is to become a "social hub for local residents" and will not be a "rowdy venue", with the main noise being generated by conversation and background music, with sound proofing to be installed to remove any potential impact on residents.

In a report recommending approval, council case officer Edward Shepherd said: "The unit is not currently in retail use and whilst potentially having a slightly different thoroughfare than the exiting café use, in terms of hours, when in use as a drinking establishment it would complement the other uses within the area and would not result in an excessive concentration of non-A1 uses, noting the other shops across Christleton Road.

"With regard to amenity, there is a residential units above the commercial unit as well as to the side and rear. There are examples of restaurants, pubs and takeaways with the retail area meaning there is already an element of nightlife.

"The premises is relatively small scale limiting the overall noise impacts and the opening hours will be conditioned to be in line with the adjoining uses.

"Details of sound insulation has been submitted and this will be conditioned to be installed prior to first use of the premises as a drinking establishment."
