Join Dr Alex Robson to learn about surfaces and coatings in the first in a series of breakfast research seminars on materials science at Lancaster University’s Material Science Institute. Learn how cutting-edge research can help you increase the competitiveness of your business.

Surfaces are critically important in how a material interacts with its surroundings. By modifying a material’s surface or by applying a coating material performance can be significantly changed and enhanced. For example, surface wetting can be reversed: wettable materials can be made to repel liquids and, vice versa, water-repellent materials can be made to wet. Materials can be made biocompatible and hence implantable.

Understanding of surfaces and coating performance is important in quality control, problem solving, and product or process development.

Researchers at Lancaster are world-leaders in the manipulation of surfaces, and technology developed by our researchers has underpinned products sold globally. This seminar will concentrate on plasma coating technology – the principles and applications – highlighting current research and provides examples of case studies of previous industrial use.

These breakfast events are for businesses and material researchers from across the globe.

We are especially pleased to invite Cheshire and Warrington SMEs to join our seminars and to gain insight into our research in surfaces and coatings and the latest research challenges in this field.

These seminars are aimed to provoke thought on how smart surfaces and coatings might improve the reliability, performance and behaviour of your materials, products and processes.
