WorkNest

The chief executive of a Cheshire-based employment law, HR and health and safety specialist has outlined ambitions to continue its "strong double digit growth levels", both organically and through acquisitions.

Chester-based WorkNest's roots go back to 2001, when Malcolm MacKay founded Law At Work, which provided employment law expertise. In 2004, Mark Ellis then founded Ellis Whittam, a provider of employment law, HR and health and safety services for businesses.

In 2019/20, both became part of Marlowe plc, the business-critical services and software group. Since then, a number of other like-minded businesses have been added to this team.

The businesses have now all come together under the WorkNest brand, which earlier this month celebrated its first anniversary.

In the past year it has acquired three new businesses in HR consultancy, SaaS and another law firm, with the acquisitions generating another £7.5m in revenue and adding 75 colleagues, as WorkNest continues to grow.

Prior to the formation of WorkNest, nine acquisitions had been made, meaning successful integration was the primary task for those businesses, succeeding on several levels with securing growth, synergies and integrating where it made sense.
