Abbeywood Estate is given green light for glamping pods

Abbeywood Estate applied for planning permission for a site between the A54 and the A556 towards the end of last year.

The wedding venue's application was to build a group of six glamping pods – each of which would have a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen area and a living area.

The wooden structures would be in a wooded area next to an existing tennis court and an existing tennis pavilion along with a new parking area and new pathways.

It is one part of a bid to bounce back from the coronavirus crisis which the applicant said was a big blow to the wider wedding industry, because of the cancellation of ceremonies, but also because of the disruption of dating from 2020 to 2022.

Abbeywood Estate has a garden, a garden cafe, a flower shop and a gift shop but it has limited accommodation at the local attraction close to Delamere Forest.

The wedding venue's application said: "The demand for overnight stays across Cheshire West demonstrates the increasing importance of the visitor economy. While there is alternative accommodation in the area this is often priced at a premium."

The approval of the application is subject to conditions including the commencement of the work within three years.
