The Good Food Guide has selected a popular pub near Chester as one of the ‘Best Pubs for a Family Celebration’.
The White Horse, in Churton, has been selected among several top gastropubs across the country as the perfect setting for your next gathering.
The recently published 17-pub selection is taken from the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Pubs list, and features entries from across the UK which ‘welcome groups with children, dogs, and awkward eaters with capable warmth, special menus and even bespoke opening times’.
The Elite Bistros venue has gathered several awards since opening two years ago and has also brought some of the world's great chefs to Churton as part of its Guest Chef series.
The Guide describes the pub as a ‘pleasingly spacious and sensitively renovated old hostelry in a pretty village near Chester.’
Its review is full of praise for the menu, which is ‘short but suits all-comers’ and features chef Gary Usher’s ‘legendary truffle and parmesan chips’, and its ‘absolutely charming staff’.
The pub also offers a Sunday menu and a range of indulgent desserts.
The White Horse is the only restaurant in the county to be included in the list.
The pub was Elite Bistros first foray into running a traditional ‘pub’ business, with other popular venues like Sticky Walnut, in Hoole, typically being, somewhat unsurprisingly, bistros.
Since then, the business has branched out further, with a bakery business, Usher’s Bakehouse, which is also located in Chester.
