A popular pub near Chester has been selected among the top 50 gastropubs in the UK.
The White Horse, in Churton, was honoured at the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2026 ceremony at Plaisterer’s Hall, London, on Monday, January 26.
The Elite Bistros venue, which revitalised the building and took it from long-term closure to culinary gem, has been a great success since it reopened in 2022.
It is known for its delicious bistro food, bar snacks, and its hugely popular guest chef series which has seen top names like Simon Rimmer, Angela Hartnett and Michel Roux take over evening service.
Ranked at number 50 in the list, voted for by the Top 50 academy, a review said that chef Gary Usher and his team had ‘done a fantastic job of taking a closed and shuttered community pub and carving out a gastropub that not only serves great food but offers a hub for the village it serves.’
The pub’s team reacted on X (Twitter) saying: “We could never do this without our amazing team, fantastic guests and the most supportive locals ever we are humbled and honoured and this is just the most amazing start to the year!”
The pub was the only Cheshire entry in top 50, with The Devonshire in Soho, London, named as the number one.
