Work begins on second Chester Lidl

Braithwaite Group will lead the construction of the retailer’s second store in the city and is set for an early 2026 finish.

The Lidl will emerge from an amalgamation of two existing units at Caldy Valley Retail Park, the 9,950 sq ft B&M and the 7,500 sq ft Rightway stores. Planning permission to do so was granted in April 2024.

Front and rear extensions and a reconfiguration of the car park to reduce the number of spaces from 206 to 170 will also be undertaken.

Around 40 local staff are set to be employed by the store.

Caldy Valley Retail Park is owned by LaSalle Business Management and comprises 35,000 sq ft across its four units, with Lidl set to join neighbours Halfords and Pets at Home at the site.

Stuart Jardine, regional head of property, Lidl GB, said: “We’re thrilled to be constructing our second store in the city and delivering convenience to more customers. It has been a real team effort behind the scenes to reach this milestone, and we can’t wait to open our doors to new Lidl fans.”
