The Cheshire village with a high street that's almost completely independent

Nestled between Chester and Crewe in rural Cheshire, the stylish village of Tarporley is a sight to behold. The high street is a charming mix of quaint tea rooms, antique shops, trendy bars, restaurants and clothing retailers.

Each business stands out with its unique charm, but they all share one common trait - they are independently owned.

Take for instance Ginger and Pickles, a family-run bakehouse that's been a staple in the village for seven years.

The aroma inside is even more delightful than its exterior, with everything from Bakewell tarts to flapjacks, as well as custom cakes for special occasions, all made using local suppliers.

He emphasizes the importance of this approach: "We try to get our casks as local as possible and we don't use any national wholesalers, only smaller ones. We feel by doing that, you build a much better relationship with independent companies".

"Apart from the Co-op and the Spar, every other business on the high street is independent and sole-owned. All the businesses are in a group chat where we help to create events for the village, such as the Tarporley Carnival. Everyone gets stuck in which is such a good thing."
