Warrington & Vale Royal College hosts CSI-style taster event

Students from high schools across Northwich turned detective as they got a taste of a college's science facilities.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Winsford campus of Warrington & Vale Royal College (W&VRC) hosted a CSI-style 'whodunnit' event to showcase its modern facilities and the career pathways available.

Around 50 year 10 students from the County High School Leftwich, Weaverham High School and Rudheath Senior Academy were invited to the campus, which is now a partner Institute of Technology (IoT) for Health & Life Sciences.

During the visit the pupils, taking on the role of crime scene investigators, worked to solve puzzles and uncover clues, while experiencing hands-on tasters of the health, science, engineering, and electrical courses on offer at the campus from September 2025.

A Warrington & Vale Royal College spokesman said: "As they pieced together evidence across the different subject areas, each representing a high-demand industry sector in the local area, they ultimately discovered the guilty parties were none other than their own school teachers, who had stepped into suspect roles to bring the mystery to life.

"The day was filled with excitement, teamwork, and hands-on learning.

Sessions were held in the campus’s specialist facilities, including the Health & Social Care Academy’s hospital ward, the Life Sciences Academy’s industry-standard science labs and the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Academy’s mechanical engineering and electrical workshops.
