Former Chester Argos store to be turned into 24-hour gym with cafe

The former Argos store on Chester's Greyhound Retail Park is set to be turned into a 24-hour gym with a café. The retail park owners' plans for the empty unit have been revealed in a successful lawful development certificate application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

What is not disclosed in the application is who intends to operate the gym. The unit was previously occupied by retailer Argos who closed the store for good last year.

In a report recommending approval, case officer Lynsey Logue states: "The application is for a lawful development certificate for Class E gymnasium with ancillary café to operate on an unrestricted 24-hour basis from Monday to Sunday inclusive. Unit 6 has operated as a retail unit for several years and would fall under the Use Class E (a).
