LOSING a pet can change your life - but one man has turned his loss into hope for others.
Alex Lau, based in Winsford, has launched SmartPaw Home Ltd, an IT business blending home automation, veterinary care, and cybersecurity into smart solutions for pet owners.
Mr Lau founded the business after losing his cat, Siu B, who died in Hong Kong five years ago after swallowing a piece of string that went undetected.
Mr Lau said: "I returned home to find a pool of blood on the floor.
"Minutes later, my beloved cat Siu B vomited blood right in front of me.
"I spent every penny I had, but she still died on a cold operating table.
"I lived with that crushing guilt for five years until my second cat, Tung Tung, was diagnosed with kidney failure.
"That is when I decided no more local pet parents should ever feel that helplessness again."
SmartPaw Home Ltd integrates technology to help pet owners monitor their animals’ health and routines - something Mr Lau believes might have helped him spot the warning signs earlier.
